WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE HUMSS?

Be a HUMSS student!! Be a HUMANISTA!!

Hi, I hope you will have a nice day ahead! I am Rhealyn Mae, a current HUMSS student from Zambales National High School. You might be wondering why did I chose this track, Humanities and Social Sciences, right? Of course, I have my reasons and it was based on my own goals in life and skills. My preferences might help you choose your own track and we are might be the same so do not leave this blog!

HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (HUMSS)

HUMSS stands for Humanities and Social Sciences. It is one of the strands offered to Senior High students. This strand is for learners who aim to take up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college. The HUMSS strand revolves around improving a studentā€™s reading, writing, and speaking skills because if you havenā€™t noticed yet, people who choose this strand are aspiring to become members of the society who will be be dealing with a lot of people.

This strand focuses on the study of societal issues and changes as well as human conditions. Students enrolled under this stand will have better appreciation and knowledge of culture, society, politics, arts and literature.

This will provide students with a deeper understanding on the interplay of different aspects of society.

common misconception about HUMSS is that it is a lot easier than other strands or that students do not need to study as hard as compared to the other strands especially as STEM or ABM. Every academic tracks in senior high is hard in their own special way. Yes, I chose the word special because every tracks have their own specializations.

HUMSS is heavily-centered on research and will require students to read, write and present multiple academic papers throughout the years. This strand covers a wide range of disciplines that delve into the investigation and inquiry of the human conditions that uses empirical, analytical, and critical methods of studying human behavior and societal changes.

ADVANTAGES:

1. Students pursuing college degrees on this strand will have a deeper understanding of arts, culture, literature, politics, and society.
2. These complex interplay of these facets will help them appreciate individual behavior and social group and the pressing issues corresponding them.
3. Enhance the studentsā€™ speaking and communication skills and can boost their self-confidence.
4.Humanities teach many fundamental skills such as critical thinking, analysis, and creativity that we can appply in everyday lives.
5. Prepares the students in entering college as this strand will strengthen their logical reasoning.

DISADVANTAGES:

I personally think that taking HUMSS strand has no disadvantages because it teaches the advantageous informations that we can use in our everyday lives and in our future lives.

The disadvantages of strands in education depends on the students. How will the students handle being a humanista? If things are patchy and things went wrong, itā€™s not on the strand, itā€™s on the studentsā€™ personal life that may affect their education.
